Our Journey
We started in the year 2014 with a small group of individuals who came together to provide infrastructure help in Post Graduate Institute (PGI), which is a government hospital located at Chandigarh, India. In the beginning, wheelchairs and stretchers were donated to the hospital to help with the infrastructure needs with the donations from the group.
Later, as more people joined, the group decided on its mission to save the lives of children who could not afford the medicines / lab tests costs. This group then started working with the Pediatrics department of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) located at Sector 32, Chandigarh.
ABCD group worked as unregistered entity for several years until the year 2021, when it was registered as charitable organization under the society’s registration act (XXI of 1860) at SAS Nagar, Mohali.
We Facilitate Medical Treatment Of Needy Children
GMCH sponsors patient expenses like admission fee, treatment fee and other expenses but not the expenses for medicines or lab tests.
The cost of the medicines and the lab tests (which cannot be done in the hospital) are then borne by ABCD group. We help only those patients who cannot afford expenses for the medicines and tests. We generally contribute 50% of the bill and in some cases (if recommended by doctors), we contribute 100% of the medicine bills depending on the financial condition of the patient.
This group works through a ‘whatsapp’ group named ABCD (Any Body Can Donate). We have different personas as members of this group:
1. Donors, who make financial contributions to help patients.
2. Doctors of pediatric department, who identify and recommend needy patients.
3. Chemists, who provide medicines to the patients after the bill is approved by ABCD team.
