Sometimes the need is sudden and large — an oxygen cylinder tonight, a ventilator this week, an expensive test before surgery can proceed. These high-value interventions are exactly where community support changes the outcome.

Below are a few examples of the many ways our donors and volunteers have helped communities over the years.
For several children from families who could not afford even their school fees, education was at risk of coming to an end, with some families preparing to withdraw their children from school. When schools reached out to ABCD, we stepped in to support their education year after year until their schooling was completed, ensuring that financial hardship did not force them to leave school.
At a remote school, there were no proper washrooms for students. Girls had to go back home to use the washroom, while boys had to go to nearby fields. ABCD supported the construction of separate washrooms for boys and girls, resolving a basic but serious problem faced by the children every day.
A school in Banur depended on a water pipeline from another school. Whenever the other school had a shortage and stopped the supply, students and staff were left without water to drink and use during the school day. ABCD supported the construction of a borewell, ending the school's dependency and giving its children and staff a reliable source of water.
At GMCH-32, newborn babies require heating equipment immediately after birth to help maintain their body temperature, but the hospital did not have enough of these devices. This shortage could put vulnerable newborns at risk when the equipment was urgently needed. ABCD provided 9 heating devices, including different types for the pediatric and maternity/labour wards, helping the hospital provide timely support to newborns and children.
During COVID-19, ABCD received a request for an oxygen cylinder for a critically ill patient who was in a life-threatening condition and urgently needed oxygen. ABCD provided the cylinder when it was needed, and the oxygen support helped save the patient's life.
Children at an orphanage needed basic items that many of us take for granted. During the cold nights, some don't even have blankets or quilts to keep themselves warm. ABCD provided school stationery, bags, quilts and other essentials to the kids based on their needs.
When floods affected villages in Punjab, families were left dealing with difficult living conditions and a shortage of basic necessities. ABCD provided cots and mattresses to affected families, helping them meet an immediate and essential need during the crisis.
A Government Primary School in Phase 3B2 was struggling with inadequate study space, damaged flooring and poor infrastructure that made the school difficult to maintain and keep clean. ABCD supported the required repairs, flooring and improvements, giving children a cleaner and more functional place to study.
At a remote-area school, water would collect at the entrance whenever it rained. Children had difficulty getting into the school because the entrance became waterlogged and difficult to cross. ABCD supported repairs and tiling of the area, creating a proper pathway that made it easier and safer for children to reach their classrooms.
Many children in the GMCH-32 pediatric department come from families who struggle to afford their medicines, including children who require regular medication for chronic conditions such as diabetes. Without support, some families can find it extremely difficult to continue paying for treatment month after month. ABCD has been supporting such children with essential medicines over extended periods, helping ensure that their treatment does not stop simply because their families cannot afford it.
In one particularly difficult case, the cost of a child's ongoing medicines had become so overwhelming that the parent was considering abandoning the child because they could no longer see how they could afford the treatment. ABCD spoke with the family and assured them that the child's medicines would be supported, giving the family the confidence to continue caring for the child.
